Wow, a lot has happened since I actually blogged myself here. I’ve been super busy writing. I signed two books with a publisher and bought one of them back lol. Here’s what I know. Your experience may be different, but here’s my take.
I liked having a professional design my cover. She usually charges $200 a cover, which is out of my comfort zone, so that part was great.
I liked having a professional editor. Even though she didn’t find a whole lot and there are sadly still typos in the book, what she did find made the book even better.
I don’t like not being able to see my sales. I want to know if an ad I run is worth the cost, and I can’t do this with my publisher. Though I think they could click the same link I do and see it easily, they choose not to.
I don’t like not being able to set my categories. I set my books up through pronoun and it suggests categories to me. Then it’s as simple as emailing Amazon to add/change them. Now I have to email my publisher and hope they get around to it.
I can’t advertise the book on Amazon. I don’t think Amazon ads work all the time, though they are great for my Kids series, but I’d like to be able to put them up once in a while. With a publisher I have no control over that.
So, the long and short is – I really enjoy being an Indy author. I like having control and the ability to change things quickly, which is why my next book A Father’s Love is Indy published again.
This book has been a work. Every time I started it, I would get about 20k words in and realize the story wasn’t working. I re-started from scratch three times, but I love it now. It’s a wonderful story and it follows Alyssa from Where It All Began and introduces Maxwell Banks, a playboy who must reform his philandering ways when he is forced to raise a daughter he didn’t know he had.
